The mural was funded by the spirit of Coquitlam grant. It was my favorite part, although if you ask others they may say I hated it because it frustrating at times. When Nicole and I started designing the mural our first idea was to do a landscape containing the biomes and our school. But this did not work out as Nicole and I found out that this was not our strength and it would take way to long to complete. Then we tried to go at it from another angle so we asked every one at the school to give us a list of three thing that they would like the mural to have and or represent. This did not work well either as there was way to much to try and pull from and no ideas popped out at us. So we created a word at with all the idea to see if may be eventually we will get an idea from it.
Then on night I started writing something and came up with the perfect idea. To showcase three words Dream Create and Learn. Then Nicole and I took those three words and tried figure out what would represent each of the words and what would work.
The idea that we came up with for dream was curvy shapes pulling from a poster a previous student did. The original draft dream was not as rain drop and dreamy as the final copy since Sophia and I could not replicate what Nicole drew but it turned out for the best. For the colors that we wanted to do it was decided that it would be hot and cold colors. This took a lot of time as everything needed to be blended.
For Learn I tried to think of what learn means to me. And that was growth every time you learn our mind grows and the location that we going to be putting the mural was in the garden so I thought it would be perfect it the mural learn was the growth of vines and flowers. The flowers all needed to be blended to give them a bit more depth and all the vines took a lot of detail and time.
One thing a lot of students wanted to do was be part of the murals and since not everyone is good at painting from the start and we dint really have the time to teach them all so they could help with no issue. We had students who were comfortable painting come help any time they could those who were unsure dint but we wanted everyone to have a chance so for create we did splatter paint where everyone got to participate, it dint matter if you could paint or not. The mess and the beautiful part of the splatter paint in my opinion represent create to the fullest as we all know that creation are often messy and not always perfect the first time.
We chose to Put them in the order Dream Create Learn to balance them out and it works well. Also for many it makes a lot of sense. You Dream something, then you create it, that creation does not always work but the you learn from both you success and failures.
