One of the reasons I wanted to come to inquiry hub was the opportunity to pursue my interests. So for my second inquiry project I want to begin a garden and to do that I needed funding. Knowing that I wanted to build a garden Mr. Sarte informed me of a grant that was coming up, and gave me the information.

That day when I got home from school I read the sheet of requirements and began writing it. Then I asked my parents if it was realy worth trying to get this money thinking that their would be no way I could get a grant. Bu they reminded me that it doesn’t hurt to try and that it would be a new experience.

So I began by looking at the World Wildlife Foundation site and got the application form. I made a list of steps of things I needed to accomplish. The first step was to clarify why I wanted to start the garden. the  next step was to plan the layout of the garden, where it was going to go, what would be needed and to budget it.  I chose a spot on our school ground that would work for what I wanted and that would add to the school.

After the drafting plans I had to get a thumbs up from  Mr. Truss. I asked him if it would  work he said it could be possible. With that I continued  with the plans. Deciding the specifics the numbers of garden boxes, calculating the soil gravel and other materials that where needed. This process of budgeting caused me to learn how to use excel effectively because I would constantly need to change things in my proposal and learning to use excel was an amazing tool. The total of the estimation was $6,034.06.

I drafted the application a many times adding the changes and making improvements. Then I asked  my teachers and parents to go over it with me and work out all of the mistakes and wording. Once it was the polished version I wanted. I submitted it. I was able to accomplish this all in under two weeks and just before the due date. For the short notice I had I was very happy that I completed it all in time.

It was a very busy time for me and scary I had never done something like that before. Although I was very excited because I knew my father had done many grant applications and had received a few, so he’d be able to help me.

In early December I received notification that my application was been considered as a finalist. In the middle of December I received confirmation I was so happy. This was something that I accomplished and something I would be able to add to the school. I found two classmates and asked them if they would like to be part of the garden and we started planing.
